Abstract:

This study evaluated the effects of diets containing 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10% Arthrospir platensis on skin pigmentation, growth performance, and digestive enzymes of (Koi, Cyprinus carpio). A completely randomized experimental design was developed with five treatments and three replicates. One hundred and fifty koi fish with average initial weight of 30±1g were assigned to fifteen experimental tanks. The experiment lasted for eight weeks. Koi fish  fed with 5% A. platensis showed a significant lower growth performance than those fed with 7.5 and 10% A. platensis (p

Detection of Koi Herpesvirus in Koi Cyprinus carpio in Taiwan

Mass mortality occurred in 2-year-old koi (fancy carp)Cyprinus carpio in Taiwan in 2002. Affected fish did not show any external signs except swollen gills. The consistent histological changes were observed in the gills; hyperplasia of epithelial cells, infiltration of eosinophilic granular cells and fusion of the secondary lamellae. Nega tively stained nucleocapsids were icosahedral and 112±1 ...

Effects of stocking density on growth performance, immune and stress responses in koi carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Koi (Linnaeus, 1758))

The aim of this study was to determine the optimal stocking density in koi carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Koi). For this reason, 2400 juvenile koi (1.28 ± 0.11 g) were stocked at five levels of density (50, 100, 150, 200 and 300 fish per m3) and reared for 11 weeks and growth performance, survival rate, and hematological parameters were evaluated. There was no significant difference between first t...

Immune Response to Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) of Koi and Koi × Red Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Koi herpesvirus (KHV), also known as Cyprinid herpes virus 3 (Cyprinid 3) is lethal disease in common carp and koi (Cyprinus carpio). Two different groups (KK and RK) were infected KHV by intraperitoneal injection. Fish for gene expression analysis were sampled at 0 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h and 72 h post infection (p.i). The results showed that two immune related gene, Interferons (INFs) ɑβ and Inte...
